The Working Women Community Centre has a program open to all Portuguese-Canadian students in Toronto, regardless of gender, that offers help with English, Math, Science and other subjects as well. MENTORING

Are you a young woman aged between 16-29? If so, then you may be interested in the Working Women Community Centre's Career Options program. This program establishes mentor relationships between professionals from the Portuguese-Canadian community and young women who have similar career aspirations. The program also includes a series of workshops that will give you the skills needed to land your dream job. AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

After School and Weekend Programs - To enrol your child, simply take him/her to the school that offers the language of your choice on the first day that the classes take place. Please refer to the program regional charts for specific times and days that the program is offered. AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM GRANTS

Royal Bank of Canada offers a series of grants for communites who strive to keep their kids in school and at the same time active in after school programs. RBC After-School Grant recipient programs offer a range of structured, supervised activities that encourage social skills and self-esteem. Activities such as computer instruction, sports, literacy tutoring, music and art lessons, nutrition guidance, and homework-help provide kids with opportunities to gain an area of competence outside of academics and benefit their self-esteem. This site provided by the Government of Canada provides procedures on obtaining your high school equivalency diploma. It descrides General Education Developments (GED) Tests, eligibility, costs, and registration. It also has the location of GED Test Writing Centres. Click here.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TESTS

Official Government of Canada site. The best way to provide proof of language skills is to take a language proficiency test given by an organization approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
